This week, we learned a lot of Spanish:
Jade: Communication – Cuando son tus cumpleanos? (When is your birthday?) And things like that.
Mady: Hola como estas? Bien (How are you? Good)
Cuantos anos tienes? (How old are you?)
Names of animales. (animals)
Agua Pura (Purified water – we drink this because the tap water has bacteria that Canadians aren’t used to).

We went to this cool play place where you got to pick a movie theme and you went into a stadium and there was a 7 Dimension movie. When you went under the fake waterfall, you got sprayed with water!
Jade: Yesterday we took salsa dance lessons. It was hard at first, but then it got easier and easier as it went. And with some of the moves I laughed my head off because they were so funny. You shake your leg up and down, put your hand in front of you – and it looks like Gangham style.

Mady: The food is different, but as soon as you try it, it’s wonderful. At breakfast we have had cereal, plantain and pancakes. (Jade: We don’t have maple syrup here, but a syrup that kind of tastes like honey.)
Jade: At lunch, we have eaten pollo (chicken), arroz (rice), frijoles (beans), and those flat things that are called tortillas.

My Dad said that I had to learn how to say “quiero un helado” before I got ice cream. Today, we both got cookie dough helado.
Mady: I went to a restaurant and met a girl who was 13. She was cooking with her Mom.
The money in Guatemala is called quetzales. One hundred quetzales is $65.00 Canadian. With 25 centavos (25 cents) you can buy a mint.

Jade: This was the house we stayed in for a week – it is small, but pretty. There are 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. One room has 2 beds and the other does too. The tree with the orange things, is an orange tree. We picked one of them but it wasn’t ready so we put it on our counter to wait.

Jade: We are going to go traveling for the next week in a boat, bus, car, taxi and a tuk tuk which is a little little car with 3 wheels – (Mady: a motorcycle). Yeah, a motocycle with 3 wheels only. We are going to Chimaltenango and San Lucas Toliman.
And we will tell you all about it when we get back.
