Mady: We are on the Gulf of Mexico. Mexico is amazing and hot. There are pelicans all over, and some flew over our house. We have rented a house that has a pool, in a town called Chicxulub (pronounced Cheek Shoe Lube).
The person who owns this place has children, so there are play toys here for his kids that we can use.

After Tikal, we took a bus through Belize to Chetumal, Mexico. They speak English in Belize because Belize was ruled by England a long time ago. It is different in the graveyards because when they get buried they build big monuments when people die, so they can touch and remember them. People were kind to us in Belize. There are a lot of black people in Belize because their ancestors were from Africa. Some of the houses had straw roofs, and some were on sticks, so when it flooded the water wouldn’t go into their house.
Jade: It was warm in Belize and it rained, so we had to run to get to the bus. We passed sugar cane fields that went on and on and on.
Mady: From Tikal to Progreso, all of the bus rides added up to 29 hours to get here. I read ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid – Dog Days’ on the bus. Jade read the ‘Wizard of Oz’
In Progreso, they have the longest wharf in Mexico because there are docks but they are too short, so here they built a long dock so the Cruise Ships could come in. The Cruise Ships come in twice a week and people from the restaurants bring in musicians and play music, and make it like a party.
Jade: I read that Chicxulub is famous because 65 million years ago a meteorite hit the earth and made an invisible crater, which is a hole. When the meteorite hit it made caves and underwater springs and you can go in and explore.

Today, we walked to town, it was very long. We went to a playground, we were suppose to go to the ice cream shop but it was closed.

We went to the grocery store. The grocery store is different because you go next door to buy bread and donuts at one place, you buy vegetables in a huge market that has vegetables and fruits, and you get meat at a meat place nearby that has chicken, beef, and any kind of meat.
Mady: At the fruit market the mangoes were little ovals with a little curve on the top – they were miniature.
Jade: Since it was so long walking there, we didn’t want to walk all the way home, so we took a minibus called a ‘Combi’. (it sounds like ‘zombie’) It is kind of like a bus, because many people get on and off and on and off. I sat on my Mom’s lap because there was no space. Besides us was a woman with a baby who was hilarious.

Mady: People travel by bikes, Combis, cars, and by foot.
Jade: Also at our place, there are 4 dogs and two are the same kind, except one is smaller than the other and the big one has a cut on its head. The others are white with curly fur and grey and white and he is friendly and likes to jump up on people.
